The Meaning Behind One Kyushu, One Heart

Fukuoka, Saga, Nagasaki, Kumamoto, Oita, Miyazaki, and Kagoshima.

Kyushu has seven prefectures, each with its own history, culture, cuisine, and scenery. Even within Kyushu, the language, flavors, and atmosphere change from one prefecture and community to another.

The words “One Kyushu” are not meant to erase those differences by grouping them all together.

It means valuing every distinctive identity while remaining loosely connected through a shared love of Kyushu. Whether people think of Kyushu as home, came to love it through travel, or are curious about parts of it they have yet to discover, everyone can care about Kyushu from wherever they are.

Seven prefectures, each with its own appeal. One shared love for Kyushu.

That is the idea embodied in the name One Kyushu, One Heart.

Why We Started This Website

The site administrator, Yutaka, was born in Kagoshima and raised in Tokyo.

He did not spend many years living in Kyushu. Even so, from childhood, Kyushu always felt special as the place of his roots.

As an adult, each journey through Kyushu has introduced him to food cultures that vary dramatically by prefecture, landscapes shaped by volcanoes and the sea, hot springs found throughout the region, and townscapes and festivals nurtured over centuries of history.

Yet from outside Kyushu, its appeal is sometimes described only in broad terms, such as “a southern tourist destination” or “a region rich in nature.”

But Kyushu cannot be summed up in a single phrase.

It has major cities, histories that differ by area, a rich food culture, and industries that operate on the world stage. Even beside its famous places are attractions that remain largely undiscovered.

Kyushu has so much that deserves to be better known. We want to convey its appeal thoughtfully, in our own words.

That is where this website began.

You Can Stay Connected to Kyushu Even from Afar

Many people live away from their hometowns because of education, employment, work, family circumstances, or other reasons. Some love Kyushu but cannot move there right now.

But living there is not the only way to stay connected with Kyushu.

Travel around Kyushu. Taste its food. Choose products made there. Learn about the region's culture and history. Tell people close to you about a place or flavor you enjoyed.

Each is a way to feel closer to Kyushu and support the region.

You can care about Kyushu without living there. You can share its appeal even from far away.

One Kyushu, One Heart hopes to be a website that inspires people to do just that.

When presenting information, we place importance on verifiable grounds such as official sources wherever possible. Beyond simply listing facts, we aim to create articles that convey why something stays with you and what makes it distinctive to its locality.
