Following the 2026 Kumamoto Earthquake on July 28, 2026 (7/28), some fireworks festivals in Kumamoto Prefecture are going ahead as planned, while others have been canceled or postponed.

Fireworks Festivals Confirmed to Proceed After the Earthquake

71st Hitoyoshi Fireworks Festival

The 71st Hitoyoshi Fireworks Festival was held on August 15, 2026 (8/15), and has concluded. Fireworks were launched from Nakagawara Park, with the Hitoyoshi Castle Ruins Furusato History Square on the opposite bank serving as the main viewing area.

Tensui Town Summer Festival and Fireworks

The Tensui Town Summer Festival and Fireworks scheduled for August 1, 2026 (8/1), was canceled. The prize drawing planned for the festival will be held on a separate date.

The 48th Kikuyo Town Summer Festival was canceled because of the 2026 Kumamoto Earthquake. The entire festival, including stage performances, stalls, and the finale fireworks, will not be held.

27th Nishizato School District Summer Festival in Foodpal

The summer festival scheduled at Foodpal Kumamoto on August 2, 2026 (8/2), was canceled. The food stalls, stage events, and fireworks scheduled from 20:30 will not be held.

The 2026 Yamaga Lantern Festival Summer Evening Fireworks has been canceled and will not be rescheduled. The Dance of a Thousand Lanterns planned for the following day was also canceled, while religious rites such as the dedication of lanterns at Omiya Shrine will be held.

Great Aso Fire Mountain Festival

The Great Aso Fire Mountain Festival will be held at the multipurpose square of the Aso City General Center on August 22, 2026 (8/22). Around 60 stalls and stage events will be available.
However, the planned display of 1,800 fireworks has been canceled.

The 40th Tsunagi Summer Festival, originally scheduled for August 1, 2026 (8/1), was held on August 29 (8/29) as Tsunagi Tsunageru, an event supporting recovery from the Kumamoto Earthquake, and has concluded. Doors opened at 17:00, the fireworks began at 20:10, and the prize drawing was held at 20:35.

Oguni Fireworks was held around Miyanoharu in Oguni Town on August 13, 2026 (8/13), and has concluded. The 2026 program advertised fireworks based on pictures drawn by children and displays synchronized with music.

Fuchinsai Fireworks Festival

Takamori Town's Fuchinsai Festival was held on August 21 and 22, 2026 (8/21–22), and has concluded. A display of 2,000 fireworks began at 20:00 on the 22nd. Three temporary parking areas were provided, and traffic restrictions were enforced in central Takamori and around Takamori Station from 9:00 to 23:00.
